First, to those of you who missed our clean up effort on April 5th, I hope you will take a look at the Kelly front yard area where we focused our energies.
A spruce tree, formerly unrecognizable, was saved from vines, trash and general neglect as we pulled out 30 bags of trash and trimmed it into shape. We all agreed it’s time for the next steps….more planting and better upkeep.
AND, you missed the opportunity to hang out with John B. Kelly III, who showed up unexpectedly to help out! It was a shot in the arm for all of us to have him and, at the last minute his sister Margaret, joined us, deepening our connections with the family.
Enjoy these photos from the cleanup.
April 5th, 2014 from 9AM – 2PM
This year the Kelly Green Project will be participating in the Philly Spring Cleanup event in order to make the school grounds of John B. Kelly School cleared of any trash or debris and make it an even more safe and beautiful area for the students at Kelly.
If you’re interested in volunteering, sign up here:
Don’t forget to tell us on Facebook if you’ll be volunteering!
By participating you will be showing that you care about our neighborhood’s children and the place they spend most of their time at.
Refreshments will be served afterwards to all volunteers at the Hansberry Garden & Nature Center , located at 5150 Wayne Avenue.

We hope to see you there!
Volunteers lending a helping hand while having fun themeselves!
The garden at Kelly School has had a bountiful summer and efforts are now underway to engage students in garden activities during the coming school year with fall crop plantings. Science teacher Naomi Carter looks forward to an after school garden club while we continue a great connection with our Penn Sate volunteer Master Gardener, Michele Koskinen.
Michele has an awesome blog about the Kelly Garden.
Anyone interested in helping out with the garden, as we improve the site (picnic tables? shed? tools?) and engage more students, let us know through email email@example.com.
