Samara Bailey at the Philly Tribune has written a great article on the motivations of the leading people behind the project. It’s a great behind-the-scenes look at what the core beliefs are towards making the dream of a playground at John B. Kelly School a reality.
“Why Our Kids Need Play, More Than Ever”
“We evolved to learn our human skills in the real world, and screens just can’t substitute for reality.”
Dear friends of Kelly Green,
This is a quick note to ask for two things:
- LIKE us on Facebook! (Kelly Green Project) The more who LIKE us, the farther the information spreads. It’s also the easiest way to stay in touch as we continue to move this project forward, so we need you to say LIKE to us! facebook.com/kellygreenproject.
- Consider contributing to the KellyGreen project, not just financially, but in other ways: Have some games or sports equipment you’d like to donate to the structured recess program? (Chess, checkers, Twister, Uno, Scrabble Junior,, Sorry!, etc. all welcome, along with playground equipment.)
- We’re also looking for a volunteer to be a volunteer coordinator! A few hours a week to help recruit, coordinate and process volunteers who are stepping forward to help with recess activities is a necessity to keep it all rolling. And, BTW, recess activities also include gardening, led by our volunteer Tom Grabe! Just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested in volunteering.
The busy summer created a number of positive connections including Cindy Bass’s office, PHS, and potential funders and supporters, with a tour of the school grounds coming up this week. While we kick off our $600,000 fund-raising campaign, we are also beginning a process to work with AmeriHealth for playground development. And an impressive response from parents at Back to School Night last week has resulted in a surge of interest. Stay in touch. Lots of ways to plug in. (LIKE us!)
Thanks for your help.
